What's the easiest country to move to (aside from the US, Canada and Mexico)?

I don't know if this belongs here, but I thought maybe some of you could feel me on this... [Apr. 13th, 2005|02:35 pm]

As the world slides deeper and deeper into anti-Americanism, I have decided to adhere to the old adage "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." I must clarify here my use of the word "beat". I have never attempted to beat (in either sense of the word) the harsh and numerous critics I have encountered. I am in no way the one to be defending the actions and values of the government of the very country I wish so desperately to leave. I have simply tried to correct misconceptions and generalisations, often to no avail. As I come to an understanding of what it is to be an overseas representative of one of the most controversial and powerful countries this world's history has known, it's become clear that my skin just isn't thick enough. I have neither the patience nor the will to fight this uphill battle alone. America will always be bigger than me. Trouble is, it thinks it will always be bigger than the world, in turn.

More ranting and raving about how I've had it up to here with AmericaCollapse )

Marry a New Zealander [Feb. 6th, 2005|04:48 pm]

USA is an interesting place and I'd like to live there for a bit to get a feel for the place. It'd be easier if I was legal so are any of you Americans here interested in marrying/civil-uniting this New Zealander?

hey there [Jan. 9th, 2005|11:56 am]
[Current Mood |hopefulhopeful]

Hi, I just joined this community because I'm hoping it will help. I'm trying to find information about moving to England, either permanently or on a work Visa but I really don't know how to go about it. I've done a few web searches but haven't come up with much. I've decided I don't want to be American anymore. You can't choose where you're born but you can choose where you live. I hate Bush and where this country is going (or not going, rather?). I hate how everyone talks about protesting and stuff and then nobody does anything. I hate how nobody seems to be doing anything about it. I'm afraid Bush is the downfall of this country and I want no part of it; I don't want to be part of a country that the rest of the world hates because of all the stupid shit our governement has done in the name of freedom and religion. I've lost faith in this country. I hear Tony Blair is in tight with Bush, but I honestly don't know much about him. Still, it can't be as bad as here. I like the idea of health care for everyone. I'm reasonably sure I'd fit in well in England; I like British people and I love how they're all so polite, at least the ones I've met. Better than all the assholes over here anyway. (Being a Harry Potter fan may have something to do with it as well. XD) I have about a year of school left here; what I'd like to do is finish school and then go to England and find a job. I'm studying music, majoring in instrumental performance; I also work at a music store repairing instruments, which I really like, and I'm also an artist. I'd be happy if I could find some sort of work related to that over there. When I think about my future career I picture myself in England, not here. I guess ideally what I'm looking for is to get a work Visa and then marry someone over there. Any help you guys can give will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers! (You see, I'm already picking up on British expressions and culture :-D)

Greetings comrades. I am not an American but a very angry Australian who is just as pissed off as you guys are. Our Prime Minister is in bed with your idiot President so if you're thinking of moving to Australia....don't. We have recently had an election too and the christian right are being heard. We have a new party called Family First which is funded by the assembly of ghod church. I'm very afraid.

I understand if you don't want me to be a member here but I need to know that not all Americans are fuckwits. I would like to sit silently and read your messages of hope if that is ok.

Protest the Election [Dec. 10th, 2004|01:45 am]

Join the Good Fight!

Ever since George Bush was re-elected, conservatives have been telling liberals to "get over it." Excuse me? "Get over it?" This wasn't a baseball game. This wasn't the Super Bowl. We're not sobbing in our beers because the Steelers whipped the Packers. We're at war. People's lives are at stake. Every day, families are being destroyed, both here and in Iraq. To treat this election so dismissively is an insult to them and to the soldiers who gave life and limb in this war.

Get Involved!

On December 12th 2004 at 12 noon, before the steps of your State Capitol and the Federal Capitol, join with us to protest the theft of our votes and our voting rights in the 2004 election.

As citizens, it is our duty to protect those basic rights that insure the survival of our democracy and constitution for present and future generations of Americans.

Egregious infringements of our voting rights occurred in the 2004 election: our voting systems were compromised and our votes violated. The line was crossed: we no longer trust our voting systems.

Post this where ever you can, every blog and journal you can. IM , email, whatever you can. Try libraries, colleges, bookstore, coffee shops, ect. .... places where political people hang out! Get the word out soon!

Oh, and tell your friends! And if you know people in media (or happen to write for a paper) by all means, get this story out! Get the media to talk about this story, even the bigwigs! Thanks !

You have to ask yourself, are you part of the solution, or part of the problem?
Because Apathy is Deadly.

Get the HTML code with pictures that you can copy and paste for your Journal entry to look like this one

On December 12th, go to your state or federal capitol and make your voice heard.

Make a sign and show up!

Hotel Rwanda [2004] about the Rwanda Genocide 10 years ago [Nov. 18th, 2004|07:07 pm]

RWANDACollapse )
======= ***Warning: Explicit language below. Proceed at own risk.

They didn't make this film to make money. At first I was like, "I'm not going unless I know they're donating some proceeds to charity" ...but I realise after reading that article, I had a few screws loose-I was jumping to conclusions. This was an INDEPENDANT film that won so many awards because of the content-and it might never have happened without people who care. Please go see this film-it's for awareness! TAKE YOUR KIDS GODDAMN YOU! FUCKING SHOW THEM THAT HUMANS ARE ASSHOLES AND THIS SHOULD NEVER EVER EVER EVER HAPPEN AGAIN. GENOCIDE is WRONG. I remember watching news about it on Channel one, and since then I probably know a lot more about the ethnic CLEANSING that goes on over there than most people- that CONTINUES to go on over there.

It must be noted that America was the only country not to sign the international treaty to NOT USE LANDMINES (you know, those mines that explode in rice patties) and to this DAY still has NOT signed that treaty. Just today, the french prime minister caught some americans spying on him(DUH, we're PARANOID americans:P). And RUSSIA has been CONFIRMED today that it's building WMD's of "BETTER" quality than the U.S.

Alright, I'm just really mad. Just HOW can *I live in a country in which there are so many assholes!?!
In which we are the MOST two-faced WAR MONGERING country that EXPECTS other countries to stop producing WMD's but yet we have our own WMD's and REFUSE to stop using landmines when other countries have?! Oh what do I care the WHY's of it all. It's just sad that the culture as a whole is lacking somehow.

I mean, france and switzerland came up with DOCTORS without BORDERS and just WHAT does the U.S. come up with? "Peace Corps" Which is good and all, but SET AN EXAMPLE you assholes. JUST SET AN EXAMPLE. And you can't really say, "we did enough in WW1&2" we have enough goody two shoe points to float us into the 21st century. Nuh uh... because there are standards we should aspire to as individuals and as a country.

It's public because my feelings are public.
Watch this robotics video: http://www.analogik.org/video/_tetra_vaal_video.mov
...and i recommend the book "Forever Peace" by Joe Haldeman

Red States vs. Blue States [Nov. 12th, 2004|09:17 am]

One of the funniest rants on the issue of "moral values" I've read so far.
